canine good citizen evaluation

K9 Mastery offers AKC Canine Good Citizen testing as requested.  You are not required to attend obedience classes for this evaluation, but the test can be added to obedience lessons for a small fee.  The test consists of 10 steps and certifies that the dog has good basic manners based on AKC standards.

obedience training

K9 Mastery offers 3 levels of obedience training: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Below you will find a description of what can be expected from your dog at the completion of each 8 week course. All group classes are open enrollment, so you can start at any time, and we do not limit the number of students in each class in order to provide optimal levels of distractions and so you can clearly see the progression of a dog through the various levels of obedience. Private lessons are also available as well as in-kennel training on a very limited basis.

behavior modification

K9 Mastery offers behavior modification to correct any problem behaviors you are encountering with your dog, including severe aggression issues. Behavior modification is only offered in conjunction with obedience training and is given at no additional charge.  Our goal is to not just teach your dog to sit and walk nicely on a leash but to be a well behaved and trustworthy member of your family. Therefore, it is our philosophy that behavior modification is an integral part of any training program and should always be included with instruction.

agility

On an as available basis, K9 Mastery offers instruction in stress agility.  Stress agility, unlike sport agility, does not focus on speed or the "cleanliness" of the run.  Instead, stress agility focuses on building confidence in the dog as well as the bond between dog and Master.  This type of agility can be performed anywhere there is an obstacle to be found and most classes focus on "urban agility" (i.e. working on obstacles found in everyday locations).  The goal of stress agility is for the Master and dog to work as a team to overcome new and differing obstacles in order to expose the dog to various stressors and show the dog that as a team you will always succeed.

dock diving

Dock DIving is a fun and exciting sport that is rapidly growing in popularity.  K9 Mastery offers basic instruction on dock diving through meet-up groups and practices at local parks.  Competitions consist of 3 events:

  • Big Air
Big Air is the most popular competition. In this competition, the dog runs down the dog and jumps off the dock for a toy or object thrown out over the water. The distance the dog jumps is measured from the dock to where the base of the dog's tail hits the water.
  • Extreme Vertical
Extreme vertical is a compeition based on the height of a jump rather than the distance. In this event, the dog jumps from the end of the dock to grabb an object suspended over the pool. The dog that jumps the highest wins.
  • Speed Retrieve
Speed Retrieve is the newest addition to the Dock Diving Competition. As the name suggests, scoring is based on time.  The dog will run and jump from them dock in order to swim to the end of the pool and retrieve an object suspended just above the water. When the dog grabs and pulls the object down, the timer stops, and the dog with the fastest time wins.
